INTRODUCTION

Jovan Sex Appeal Cologne was introduced in 1976 and had both for men and for women versions, but today only the 'for men' is available. The bottles we get today are reformulated using cheaper materials and not as strong as the original, as users noted.

The notes/ingredients section above might be an overkill of information, but we all need to be like that as consumers. First of all, the notes were officially listed as 'rare spices and herbs'. I just found the notes on some websites and wanted to confirm by linking with the ingredients list on the box.

After looking up some of the ingredients listed on the box and their signature scents/sources, I was able to verify the correctness of the notes listed by the other websites.

THE REVIEW

The fragrance opens with an herbal-citrus scent (lemon, bergamot, patchouli). After 10 seconds it quickly warms up to the dry-woody spicy nature of this fragrance. The heart notes that I can smell the most were lavender, clove, sandalwood, vetiver and cinnamon. Among the base notes, you can distinctly smell amber and a bit of tonka beans (coumarin), which they did not list.

After a long time, the notes that stay on my skin were lavender, sandalwood, clove, cinnamon and amber. The overall impression is that is smells something to the effect of Chinese drugstore herbs, sometimes like slightly toasted dry wood (not burned).

The sillage of Jovan Sex Appeal is much better than the Jovan Musk. The JM smells lighter and disappears much quicker, while the JSA smells more opaque, others can smell it more, and it also lasts longer.

This is a 'eau de cologne' and the sillage/lasting power performs accordingly. Don't expect this to last as long or as strong as EDP, but it can stay for 2 hours with some sillage, then afterward the scent mostly stays on your skin until 8+ hours.

Conclusion: This cologne is not my idea of 'sex appeal', but it is a wonderful exotic scent peppered with spices and warmth. It looks like a very nice scent to wear on a cool environment or for rainy days. Why don't local perfumes make inspiration scents out of this???
