[DISCLAIMER: As seen in the title, the one I'm featuring here is a 'tester' version of the perfume bought online. The product page where I bought this perfume never indicated it was a tester and even used official product photos. This easily/intentionally misleads the buyer to think it is the real thing. Later they admitted it was a tester. It was an act of misrepresentation, misleading, cheating and dishonesty.]

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
"Dolce&Gabbana The One for Men is an elegant, sensual perfume that is decidedly modern but also a unique, timeless classic. It is the natural, masculine version of Dolce&Gabbana The One. An Oriental Spicy perfume which is developed from the harmony of Tobacco notes and refined spices."
NOTES
Top: Grapefruit, Coriander, Basil
Heart: Cardamom, Ginger
Base: Tobacco, Amber, Cedarwood
IMPRESSIONS of this Tester
It has an incense smell. The same smell as when my room smells after burning frankincense and myrrh.
Probably the manliest scent for me.
Top starts with ginger, but mostly stays ginger/citrus.
Tobacco is also there.
I like this very manly fragrance. You can smell all the notes but with zero sillage.
This tester lasts less than 5 minutes, then nothing smells on your skin.

The Packaging
Original ones have very tight plastic wrapping with no creases or wrinkles. The one I have shows otherwise and the wrapping looks cheap too. If you'd look under the box, it shows that there's a tape sealing it. I derive that it was tampered, swapped, refilled, put back inside, then taped.
The cardboard box was supposed to be black for the original, the one I have has a red copper color. On one side there is a bar code that does not have numbers. At the base of the box you can find an engraved batch number 8229. Original ones usually have a deep imprint, but this one made a half hearted effort. Also the printed icons at the bottom also show an obvious fake.
Open the box from the top, and a second protective cardboard lining will greet you. The cuttings look neat. Once I get to this part I could smell the manly peppery perfume. Did they intentionally spray on the cardboard box to mislead us with the aroma and think it's original? Very clever.

The Bottle
The bottom of the bottle is a sticker 'eau de parfum' (I ordered 'eau de toilette'). Another clear sign of a fake. The batch code at the base of the bottle was 8263 (EDP). Yet another sign of fake.
The base of the box is another sign of a fake. The original shows the flammable icon in place of the 'PAP' we see here. |
The cap is supposed to be metal and the bottle does come with a metal cap (fake ones have plastic, I've read). The original has curved interior walls whereas this fake only had straight walls.
The part of the bottle I did not like the most was the atomizer... it leaks! After pushing the nozzle down to tighten it, that seems to solve the issue. Also, the original is supposed to have a black color plastic on the atomizer, not white.

The initial impression pleased me. There all the notes can be smelled, it had good sillage, and lasted for a while. So now I'm tempted to think it's original. With my second and third sessions, I began to notice peculiar things.
Such as the mixture of the notes not blending well. When I spray, there is only the top note of ginger, the peppers, tobacco, amber and cedarwood are gone. The sillage became close to skin scent, the longevity was such that I won't smell anything on my skin after spraying. Nothing.
One more tell-tale sign of quality. Shake the bottle and look at the bubbles. High quality perfume is concentrated with oils. These oils are thick so it takes around 10-15 seconds for the bubbles to disappear. This tester bottle has bubbles that disappear as soon as you stop shaking it... watered down!
My theory is that the fakers who did this probably filled the bottle with their fake perfume. Then they used the spray/siphon on an original perfume so that the first sprays would have that liquid. Then they put that spray on the fake tester bottle.
Conclusion/Lesson: Anything can be faked nowadays, can they? There will be plenty of fancy terms to confuse buyers such as 'tester', 'class A', 'reject', etc. but they are all counterfeit. The problem is that even sellers use photos of originals for display and their style is to never let anyone know that a product is 'tester' unless customers ask. Very shady business.
The lesson is that there are many local brands that are of high quality. We can purchase these brands to support them. Or why not check out Avon too? Subok at mapagakatiwalaan pa.
