THE REVIEW
The Avon Black Suede 'Essential' EDT was introduced in 2013. It has a simple composition of Mandarin Orange for top note, Wild Blue Lavender at the heart of the fragrance, and a soft Suede accord at the base. I owned a small pocket size sampler then bought a bigger 100mL EDT bottle later.
I have owned several variants of the Black Suede. 'Intense EDT' is a smoky peppery scent with mild sweet earthy grassy notes; my favorite variant, the one that has the strongest projection and lasting power. 'Touch EDT' is a mild skin scent that smells like ginger ale soda in the opening then fades to a creamy vanilla tonka bean scent; very long lasting even sticks around after a shower, but the sillage is weak thus my least favorite. 'Classic EDC' is spicy, peppery and exotic; it has a good projection and lasting power and my second favorite. 'Essential EDT' is a wonderful scent; slightly sweet with a crispy citrus and lavender accord; although it is a weak scent and doesn't last as long I still like it. 'Leather EDC' is yet another favorite with its mild nutty flavor; like the previous variant, it is a mild skin scent and doesn't last as long. Overall, Touch is the only variant I didn't like.
If you have tried any of those local inspired-by DG Light Blue scents, Black Suede 'Essential' smells like it but much milder. You get a mild crispy citrus opening followed by the dominating herbal lavender while the suede note is almost undetectable. Too bad it has a weak sillage since I loved this scent so much, and probably the safest scent among the Black Suede variants (followed by 'Leather') that everyone will like. Lasting power is okay... it stays a skin scent from 5 minutes until about 2 hours before it disappears, considering this is EDT concentration.
Avon' Black Suede 'Essential' EDT is one of those few fragrances I've owned and loved that people also loved. Because I tend to favor strong scents. This is a wonderful scent, but I wish it had better projection and lasting power. The scent travels far on your first spray, but it quickly settles into a moderate to mild skin scent. That is why I spray generously -- behind my neck, my shoulders/pits, elbows, writs, knees, ankles and privates. I'm okay with this since I bought it at a bargain price of PhP 370.00 (plus shipping), But at its original SRP? Nah, I'll find others. I would recommend trying the small Pocket Edition first before purchasing a full EDT bottle. Avon, please level up this fragrance!
Summary/Conclusion:
A very beautiful uplifting citrus-herbal scent
Not sharp, but a warm creamy citrus opening blast
Brings good vibes
'Essential' and 'Leather' are the safest scents among the variants
Try 'Intense' and 'Classic' if you want bold scents
Black Suede 'Essential' smells similar to D&G Light Blue
10mL Pocket Edition to sample variants or give as gift
Also available in 100mL EDT bottle
This is a mild scent, but for the scent alone is highly recommended!
