THE REVIEW

Avon's Black Suede was introduced in 1980. The bottle I'm reviewing here is the new formula which has a different set of notes. Take note that the bottle available in the Philippines is EAU DE COLOGNE, elsewhere it is EAU DE TOILETTE (other variants also EDT strength). It retails at PhP 700.00 for a 100mL bottle. I also own several Black Suede variants -- Intense EDT, Touch EDT, Classic EDC, Essential EDT and Leather EDC.

The opening of this fragrance has a creamy citrus lemon scent with a leathery undertone. Avon lists 'suede accord' (not suede as a note) as its heart note. Amber is listed as base note, which gives the light powdery finish on the skin. Are these really the only notes? I can also smell traces of herbal-green patchouli (smells kinda like green olives), some spicy anise and licorice, and warm vanilla.

It gives slightly different impressions on different occasions. Other times, the citrusy lemon dominates, at times it gives more of the herbal freshness. Oftentimes, it has a warm spicy-woody effect, usually a bit of powdery softness on the skin.

Despite being a milder EDC than other variants, it is adequate to make its presence be felt but not too in-your-face, and the fragrance lasts until the end of the day.

Having owned other variants (Intense, Touch, Classic, Essential and Leather) -- I rate the Intense as my all time favorite variant, followed by this Classic, Essential and Leather in the same level. The only one that did not impress was the Touch variant, which had a nice scent but was too subtle.

Summary/Conclusion:
Impressions of spicy-woody and herbal notes
People may think of this as old school scent.
As the product description says, 'bold signature scent'.
This is a scent that will draw a mature 30+ audience.
Smells great on a formal attire or formal event.
Safe inoffensive scent for office.
Comes in EDC strength (Philippines) but also EDT elsewhere.
Retails at 700 Pesos but you can always get a good bargain price.
Good sillage, good lasting power.
