I used to own the original formula of the Imaris in the 2000s before the new reformulations came out in the 2010s -- the Imari Original (1985) and Imari Satin (2004). I loved both of them. The Satin (white) had a beautiful blast of creamy vanilla and lasted all day. As far as I can differentiate between the Imari Original (1985) from the (2015), they smell more or less the same. More of the descriptions later...

Unlike other Imari variants, this 2015 Imari is in a weaker eau de cologne strength instead of eau de  toilette. Regardless, this Imari from 2015 has equal strength and sillage and lasting power compared with other Imaris I also owned (Imari Bold, Imari Seduction, Imari Velvet). You can't go wrong, Avon fragrances are beautiful scents, but the Imaris are some of the most beautiful and long lasting in their roster of fragrances. The sillage is moderate and inoffensive, then becomes skin scent by the second hour. Regardless, I can smell it all day and it isn't a faint scent. 

This Avon Imari Original (2015) opens with a warm creamy bergamot citrus note. A little later, the perfume settles into a beautiful powdery rose scent that will last all day. Iris note is what gives the powdery impression. The oakmoss comes and goes. Oakmoss has a woody scent and this note reminds me of wet wood or carton boxes, it smells nice in a way. When it's warm, the woody note is more present, or think of spraying floral rose perfume on a cardboard box and smelling it. In a cold airconditioned environment, it is more subdued and allows the powdery rose to take center stage without anyone else stealing the show. 

Overall, the Avon Imari Original (2015) gives the impression of the smell of talc powder that has rose fragrance, or like a soapy-floral scent. It plays between powdery-floral and soapy-floral. The effect on me is calming and even reminds me of the first time I smelled my grandmother spray her Cacharel Anais Anais EDT (1978) in 1987 -- these two perfumes are somewhat similar and remind me of my grandmother. And frankly, even if I want to dissociate this perfume from the 'granny perfume' stereotype, I still can't help but think it granny perfume but in a positive respectful way, or maybe old school floral.

I fell in love with Imari Original (1985 version) in the early 2000s. I fell in love again with the 2015 version which smells identical according to my recollection. It is a beautiful fragrance that gives the impression of talc powder with rose scent, and plays between powdery and soapy. This fragrance is very soothing and comforting for me, I spray it on my pillows and bed as I go to sleep. 

Alot of people today are used to sweet, fruity, or aquatic scents and this may not be their cup of tea -- then try the other Imaris like Bold, Velvet, and Seduction. People around my age (40s and up) might appreciate this fragrance alot more, but any person can wear it. It is unisex and would be even better when worn by men.
