Ribbon Cutting Ceremony From Left to Right: Ms. De Cordova, Mr. Timothy Yang, Mr. Leo Co, Ms. Jenny Fajardo |
Yoshino = a provice in Old Tokyo, Japan
Ya = Jap. 'house'
We were invited by Yoshinoya Philippines to attend their Grand Opening at the Ayala Fairview Terraces on February 28, 2014 (the event also coincides with the opening of Ayala Fairview Terraces). First was the Store Blessing by Rev. Fr. Regalia at 11.30am, which was followed by the Ribbon Cutting and Throwing of Coins for good luck. Afterward were the speeches by Mr. Leo Co (Managing Director) and Mr. Timothy Yang (President of Ihanat Foods Corporation). According to them, Century Pacific and Ihanat Foods wanted to forge a partnership so that they would be able to further expand the brand here in the Philippines.
We were then served with a suite of Yoshinoya specialties. The full-course meal consisting of: Green Iced Tea, Beef Bowl (Gyudon), Kani Salad, Red Ginger, and Hani Siomai. Overall, I can say that their menu are very affordable and are all within P200. They even have Special Group meals so that you can save even more. For those who have not yet tried Yoshinoya, please allow me to share our experience with you:
Did you know that the Yoshinoya restaurant had been around since 1899? Its creator, Mr. Eikichi Matsuda opened his store in Nihonbashi, a fish market in Chuo-ku Tokyo, and had since been offering Yoshinoya's trademark Beef Gyudon (Japanese for 'Beef Bowl') ever since. The restaurant goes by the motto of "Tasty, low-priced, quick.". You can just imagine how many generations have been filled with happy gastronomic memories! Thank you so much Mr. Matsuda!
Their menu had gone through countless re-inventions in order to keep up with the tastes of the generation, but Yoshinoya's specialty Gyudon (Beef Bowl) has, since its founding -- been the same unchanged recipe that propelled Yoshinoya to fame. Yoshinoya's Gyudon (Beef Bowl) uses premium beef, with a special beef broth poured over a bowl of white chewy rice for a warm wholesome flavor.
Today, Yoshinoya has over 1,200 outlets around the world in key markets like Japan, USA, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. Yoshinoya was franchised by the Century Pacific Group in 2001 and has 7 branches up to date: SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM-Mall of Asia, SM Manila, Robinson's Galleria, Glorietta 1, and now... their latest addition is at Ayala Fairview Terraces in Quezon City.
P.S. Their branch in SM-MOA is currently having a renovation and would be opening on March 20. Mark you calendars. Don't forget to check out the hashtag "#YoshinoyaAyalaFairviewNowOpen" in FaceBook. Thanks!

Overall, I can say that their menu are very affordable and are all within P200. They even have Special Group meals so that you can save even more. For those who have not yet tried Yoshinoya, please allow me to share our experience with you:
- Gyudon (Beef Bowl, P119.00) consists of beef strips, a slice of onion, and chewy rice mixed with a broth of aromatic herbs and spices.
- Kani salad (P69.00) consists of carrots, cucumber, and romaine topped with strips of kani, seaweeds, caviar, and kani salad dressing.
- Kani Shu Mai (P59.00). Not your typical siomai! It's fully packed with pork meat content but has a very clean mellow non-greasy taste, topped with crab meat.
- Red Ginger (P5.00). Nothing helps to clear the throat like Red Ginger does. You can take a few strips after a meal or eat it in between dishes. That way, you can fully savor the taste of the next dish with your taste buds.
- Green Iced Tea (Large, P40.00). I love the mix, it has a mild sweetness and even has a slice of lemon in it.

We arrived just a few minutes before 11am and the Yoshinoya staff were making preparations for the opening. |
And finally, the Ribbon Cutting. |
Staff, celebrities and cosplayers were called in for a quick pictorial before the meals were served. |
The Green Iced Tea is also a must-try. I love the fresh and natural taste. No overdose of sugar here. |
Kani Shu Mai is best eaten slowly. You can feel the taste slowly developing. |
I didn't notice that Mr. Alfred Vargas was standing behind my seat until sis told me so. It was a pleasant surprise. |
Just hanging around after the event. |
