Have you ever heard the crunchy staccato of newly fried golden spring rolls exploding in your mouth as you take an enthusiastic bite? Nyom-nyom-nyom... that's it! Nothing beats the hyper-drive boost that such a cacophony of crackling sounds bring for your lunch time. Hindi naman halatang patay-gutom ako noh? Sometimes I go loca just before lunch thinking about what or where to order since I occasionally have the picky eater syndrome. Rather than eat in fastfood, I want value for money and be able to order more with less budget.

On a work schedule of 10AM to 7PM, my regular lunch break would be 6pm (yes dear, nakakalimutan ko palagi kumain dahil mas gusto ko nagwowork!) and by then, the ulam downstairs our office would be out of stock. Since I'm having an early lunch today, it was very fortunate that the food concessionaires have their ulam in stock, and freshly cooked pa! I noticed these lumpiang shanghai on the colander, fresh and warm. Why not. 5 Pesos isa, order tayo ng walo, then some other stuff. Total na ginastos ko lang is 60 Pesos.

In case you're wondering if naubos ko yan... Yes, and it was enough to curb my hunger pang until I got home around 12mn.

However, nothing really beats mama's cooking. Mama is very health-conscious and lives by the culinary motto of low-sugar, low-sodium, low-fat/cholesterol diet. Mama's unbeatable spring rolls is made of ground pork, onions, pepper, no salt, and spring onions (pampabango).

When cooking the spring rolls, I love to take it to the next level and add star anise, chopped bay leaves and whole black pepper onto the oil. This gives the oil a special spiced-up aroma but doesn't affect the taste. In fact, they do make the food less 'malansa'.

Blissfulness.
