CATZILLA: Pyrantel Embonate Nematocide/Dewormer For Cats and Dogs

Pyrantel Embonate Nematocide/Dewormer For Cats and Dogs
Pyrantel Embonate Nematocide/Dewormer For Cats and Dogs

I ordered a small 15mL bottle of this Pyrantel Embonate dewormer for cats/dogs. I just tested it for the first time with 1mL mixed with Angel's food. The instruction says 4mL per kilogram of cat, but it looked too much and I followed my instinct to use 1mL. The following day, the result has shown that it was already able to help flush out some worms. The dosage on the box was wrongly listed, and that the correct dosage is 1mL of nematocide per 1kg of cat.

However, one bottle wasn't enough and I was up to a second bottle, this time 60mL. It still wasn't working. Apparently, you need 'Praziquantel', which specifically targets tapeworms. Tapeworms are the most common infestation in cats, so likely you will need the Praziquantel. I suggest that you skip this article and instead read my review for the VetMate Antithemintic Vermifuge Suspension (Pyrantel Embonate + Praziquantel).

    1. This is fine. The dosage on the box is correct. Cats have shorter instestine than dogs and they have more acidic stomach, so they pass food more quickly. That’s why you need 4ml/kg. You cannot overdose your cat with this. Their bodies cannot process pyrantel embonate, meaning they just pass it to their stool. It’s only job is to kill the worms. It says in the medicine information there is effects of overdose when you use x7 of the required dosage. Meaning if you use 28ml/kg of dosage at a time, then it starts to get dangerous. So don’t worry, kitty is fine.

    1. Hi, you can still use it within the expiration period indicated in the box and bottle.

    2. The 1ml per kilo for cat is correct. The differences for cat and dog dosages has to do with the way the different species metabolize various medications. If you would like you can break down the dosage for the cat into four separate 1ml doses within a twenty-four hour period.

    1. Hello anonymous! Yes, it is not enough for tapeworms. You need a pyrantel that has PRAZIQUANTEL, which targets tapeworms. You may wait for the next week before another dose. Hope this helps.
