This is a short compressed documentary video I made over the course of two years beginning December 2019. It is about meeting Fiona the ginger cat and being gifted with three kittens which I am still very close with.

Walking The Cats

When Fiona first approached outside our home, she used to have a timid demeanor with the tail frequently tucked between her legs. Slowly we became friends in December 2019, and soon she became a sweet and touchy cat who loves to rub on my feet.

31 December 2019, New Year's Eve

She looked pregnant by February of 2020 and gave birth to them on 30 March 2020, starting at 11:00PM. This was the chronological order that they came out: Jerry (ginger), Mocha (calico), and Kofi (torby).

Kofi (Torby)

We began walking around July 2020 when they were three months old. We did it every day, particularly at night. We just had so much fun time chasing each other, and I thought it was a good way to supervise them, like a mother cat does with their growing kittens. Fiona often came home with scraps of delicious leftover foods from nearby.

The kittens were beginning to venture out.

It was a lovely and memorable period because the family was together and their father even occasionally drops by to visit. Their father is a gentleman, he just lets Fiona lead the way and quietly follows like an escort guardian, I never saw him once wrestling her rough like other males do.

By September 2020, Fiona began to reject them and came home less often until she never. Fiona just lives on our street corner and seen regularly. She had at least three other litters after this family but she doesn't know me anymore. I frequently see Fiona at the street corner doing the same, taking her kids out for a walk and supervising them. I used to have extreme anxiety and intrusive thoughts when Fiona doesn't visit for a night, I'd think something happened to her. Fiona is safe and well, that is all that matters.

June 2021, Fiona and her new litter

After Fiona left, it was me and the three cats. It came to a halt when Kofi disappeared in 26 November (exactly a year ago from the time this was published). Four days later (December 1st) while walking Jerry and Mocha, Kofi suddenly appeared outside the bushes of ixora, with a limped right leg and weak. She was very fortunate to fully recover within three weeks; Tiger (RIP July 2018) also had similar situation. Other cats would not have been lucky and I've been deeply traumatized seen several cat friends die like that in front of me.

Kofi is the shy one, often separate from the two.

Kofi often bullied Pepper's baby.
Pepper always looks resentful toward Kofi.

By December 2020, it was only walking with Jerry and Mocha. They celebrated their first birthday on March 2021. By February 2021, Jerry began to sleep somewhere else and drift away. Partly because Jerry is an alpha male and scouting the neighborhood. But he eventually settled to living in the parking lot behind our home, we still see each other regularly and I know where to find him.

February 2021, he usually sleeps in the bushes,
not in the garage anymore.

Squeaky clean after bath.

Mocha had her kittens in March (one surviving kitten, one was rescued as a blind newborn crawling a busy road of D.Tuazon Avenue). They live in our garage and made it their permanent home. I sometimes bring Mocha inside but she was never used to it and she is not close to her sister Kofi anymore.

Mocha and Kofi

With Kofi permanently a house cat here and Jerry living nearby, Mocha is the only one still living in our garage. She never leaves and defends her territory. Mocha and her kittens just likes to stay in the garage and enjoy their freedom to roam, they don't like going inside. We still take walks regularly but now with her two kittens.
