Say the word 'takoyaki' and instantly, I think about octopus, savory sauce and seaweed flavor. But no... It's not just takoyaki... it's TAMAYAKI (Jap. lit. 'cooked ball'). Their super huge + creamy takoyaki are literally to die for! We have visited one of their branches in SM North EDSA exactly a week ago. They're located at the 2nd floor of the Main Building, just beside the cinema area, past JCo and Coldstone.
The place has a relaxed vibe, with a slightly dim ambiance so you can just chillax and enjoy the food. Oh by the way, I get asked a lot if the food has a greasy aftertaste or if it's expensive. Each set comes with 4 balls -- I'm glad to share that their menu is just around P120, and the food are not at all greasy. Great news for the health-conscious!
Here's a short cooking demo of how they do it. Amazing! |
A little background: The owners of Tamayaki have franchised the business from China, and they first began their operation on February 2013 with their San Juan branch. They're relatively new and still expanding, so you can look forward to new branches near you very soon. Don't forget to visit them because they're going to include Rice Bowls and Ramen in their menu very soon!
I got to try 4 flavors. Double Cheese, as the name implies, is loaded and bursting with creamy cheese inside. Then there's the Seasoned Octopus with its crunchy crust and mildly sweet seafood flavor. Pork BBQ... panalo ang lasa, who doesn't love BBQ! Last one is the Kani and Shrimp, with its mild flavor.
Then for the drinks, it's the rich fruity Blueberry Cheese Milk Tea. We also sampled the sweet tasting Passion Fruit Yogurt with Pop Ball and the slightly astringent Peach Aloe Green Tea, which was perfect for clearing the taste bud after my meal.
I definitely dig all of the flavors we tried, and the Blueberry Cheese Milk Tea is something you don't wanna miss when you visit them. It's been a very full-filling visit at TAMAYAKI in SM North EDSA. Thanks to the generous owners for having us! =)
