Lechon is one of the things that has become imbued deeply into Filipino culture -- that no celebration would be complete without it. It is a way of showing to the guests that you value their presence. Ms. Lydia de Roca -- the girl power behind Lydia's Lechon, said that they had humble beginnings in 1965 as a simple stall along Baclaran Church. With the help of Mr. Henry Sy in the late 1980s, they were able to expand to several branches and with franchises. Today, the restaurant has become a household name that first comes to mind when you mention the word 'lechon'.
We were invited to cover the 49th anniversary on November 5, 2014 at their main branch in Baclaran. Having seen tita Lydia's super warm and humble personality, one would wonder where she gets all that energy and positive vibe despite working tirelessly around the clock. Tita Lydia couldn't emphasize more to "Love yourself... if you don't take care of yourself, you won't be able to work." She adds that she always takes vitamins and do exercises to keep her mind and body in tip-top shape.
Tita Lydia shared with us that the business had a very meager P500 as capital. She added that aside from PR, attention to detail and quality is what makes their lechon endeared to Filipinos. Even today, she's still very hands-on with the business, working 24/7 to assure customers of the best quality lechon.
We're super grateful to Lydia's Lechon Restaurant for inviting us to their intimate celebration. The Boneless Lechon, Paella Lechon and Special Chicharon -- mwah-ness! We wish you further success and looking forward to the Golden Anniversary next year! =)

Golden Anniversary, November 2015
We were invited again for their 50th anniversary on November 2015. There was originally a separate post, but I thought it would be more sensible to condense and include it here as a follow up. Happy 50th anniversary and wishing you many more celebrations in years to come!
